RIP Larry Wu Lee

I'm so very sad to have lost Larry Wu Lee (6.26.09-1.16.10) in our lives. He was born with a very serious case of hip dysplasia that made him unable to walk at times and he was always going to be in terrible pain for his entire life. I noticed something was a little different and slower with him compared to Bruce when we would go on walks. He limped a little and was a little more cautious around steps and didn't jump up too much on things. We all thought that he inherited 'the lazy gene'. Not the case. He was born with hardly a hip joint on one side and a little bit more of a hip joint on the other side. With every step, his femurs would come out of joint and put strain on his muscles and ligaments. It progressively got worse as he aged and gained more weight. Our family vet knew instantly by hand manipulation that he had a serious issue. She followed up with x-rays to show us what it looked like. Boy, it was bad. One of the worse cases she's seen, and even my untrained eyes saw he was in immense pain and discomfort. She said that he would have to been seen by an orthopedic surgeon and hopefully he would be a candidate for a very extensive surgery to repair/build a hip joint (on one side only). Which would leave him lame on the other side- with a lifetime of pain/suffering. During his earlier neuter surgery, they found out that he also had a heart murmur and accelerated heart rate- which may cause him to die on the surgery table this time around. It was absolutely terrible circumstances and she felt so bad giving us the news, less than 6 months after we lost our beloved Chuey. With Chuey's passing, we were able to celebrate his 9 years of life, and his passing was quick and somewhat understandable for me. I kind of understand ailments for pets at 9 1/2 years old. But 6 1/2 months! Our vet made me promise to call our breeder to tell them to NEVER breed those 2 parents again. I called and he was responsive to the call. It won't bring my Larry back though. He was so kind and sweet mannered. Just a all around great dog. I know in my heart we did the best thing we could for him, but it does not make the decision any easier for me. I had to put him and his feelings before mine and make one of the toughest decisions in my life.

This is definitely a chick lit book and a breeze to flip through. A fun story line and a creative twist ending that put it all together. A little excitement, a little drama... What more can a girl ask for?

Lucky by Alice Sebold

What a book! I don't know how to start the conversation on this one. What a downer from the start? What a fight to the finish line? That girl has some balls! Go get him! What a cocky jerk that puke was!
That is what was running through my mind with this one. It is a memoir that starts with a young virgin woman who is brutally raped by a man. I don't think 'man' is the correct word. I meant to say 'monster'. What that guy did to her was horrible and outrageous and completely beyond belief. She came back with a cape and smashed him in court. Good for you Alice! That is a battle that many women out there are scared to do and you did it for them. And to turn around and have her roommate get raped on her bed shortly thereafter. What! Where is the humanity in this world?
